Okay, so maybe I should start writing more often. I guess I should start with an update....
I think what I'm watching is called Surreal Life...? It's very stupid. Train wreck. Worse than Springer. But whatever.
I think the last time I wrote a real entry was around midterm time last spring. Ouch. Started classes again after break, the most relevant of which was an experimental documentary class which I HATED at first and grew to love so much that I took a second video class with the same prof in the summer. The first class spawned a mockumentary in the style of an old educational filmstrip, a conscious nod to the controversial work of Luis Bunuel. It's called "Coney Island." So far, my doc partner and I have won a Grand Goldie and we're being showcased in an online fest. You can catch it at TVNET.net if you're interested. The second class spawned segments for a feature length documentary about my group of friends from back in the day, the 057 crew. Very hard editorial work. Maybe I bit off more than I can chew being so close to the subject matter, but I will find my way I'm sure and get it done by the end of grad school. I plan to work on it as my thesis project. I need those kind of deadlines to stay on track.
In addition to this, I've also been doing more traveling than I've ever done in my life. For my birthday, Dan bought a spring break trip to the Virgin Islands which was awesome - my first time out of the country. That's probably around the last time I wrote. (I've been shotty at updating my pictures as well, as my cousin pointed out to me, so I've rectified that. Everything's at www.flickr.com/photos/icequeen057.) Since then, I've been bouncing around among NJ, NYC, FL, and Cali. I'm flying to Cali tomorrow for a week and a half to visit Dan. He's subletting his place to a guy who used to work for him at Cornell. Cool kid. He and his girlfriend are competitive ballroom dancers. He's white and he speaks better Chinese than the Chinese kids I know (we put him to the test last weekend at dim sum). He taught English in China for a semester. Pretty cool stuff. Anyhow, Dan's never home. He's always in Cali. So he let this kid and his girl take his place for a sum as long as he gets his mail and waters Pine One and Pine Two, and whenever Dan's home, he lives with me, which is funny because I'm going to be gone in August and he'll be here. Irony at its best. I fly home 7/27 and I'm staying until 9/5, barring trips to festivals if I happen to get into the four I'm expecting to hear from in the next week and a half. We're launching a website for the film in conjunction with the next notify date, so I'll keep you posted.
While I'm home, I'm going to be a bridesmaid in my friend Liana's wedding, I'm starting a mosaic and bead business with my partner, Amy (she'd like to get into metal work eventually as well), and hopefully taking a little bit of time to chill out. If you know anyone who would be interested in bead jewelry or mosaic pieces, let me know. Some examples of my work are on my flickr page. Amy's boyfriend Eric is making a website for us. I'll let you know when we're up and running.
I can't believe it's midnight. I still have to pack and run DVDs for my August deadlines. Does anyone else have the computer-sucks-my-time-away problem? Yeesh.
